Sealpin's

Services and Facilities

Elizabeth and Edward continue to have day by day control and care of every dog in the kennels whether it be for training, boarding or breeding. Over the years some excellent staff have come and gone but the continuity and high standards are maintained by the Martins close attention to detail.

Breeding

Through a very selective breeding technique of both English Springer Spaniels and Labrador Retrievers, they have gained an excellent reputation for producing sound, good looking stock. An amenable character is regarded as highly important along with an excellent working ability in both field and trial. Sealpin have provided breeding stock for both the UK and The Royal Dutch, Guide Dogs for the Blind. The dogs temperaments have proved ideal for their breeding programmes.

Gun-dog Training

Attention to detail and maintaining control right from puppy's first training session is paramount in Edwards training schedule. All dogs must be thoroughly obedient in each discipline before moving on to the next stage of training.

The standard achieved with each dog, depends entirely upon its own natural ability, the skill is in achieving the best possible potential from any dog. All dogs vary enormously in their characters, stamina and intellect. There's no promise of silk purses from sow's ears here at Sealpin but you'll go a long way before finding training to equal Edwards high standards let alone better them. For more information on Sealpin training methods go to the Training Page.

Accomodation

Available on our farm here at Sealpin, we have a country cottage for holiday letting. The cottage is a typical small borders farm house, stone built and sound. With a very large living room/kitchen, and a sitting room with open fire, lobby and downstairs cloakroom. Upstairs there are two double bedrooms and a bathroom, with shower in the bath. The whole is centrally heated from an oil fired rayburn. An electric cooker, fridge and washing machine.A television in the sitting room and plenty of power points throughout the property. The cottage is tastfully furnished in mostly antique furniture and kept to a high standard of decoration and maintainance.

The Borders are an ideal area to base for any type of sporting activity, fishing and shooting available very locally.

Dog handler tuition could be available,on a consultancy basis and of course dogs are welcome. We are usually able to provide kennel space for outings without the dog. Rabbiting days could be organized, for gun dog training, depending on the time of year and availability of rabbits etc.

The cottage at Lanton Hill, is situated right along our private roadway, half a mile from the metal road and would be considered isolated if it were not for all our activities here. We are high on the hillside looking towards the north/west,with spectacular thirty mile views. There is plenty of interest locally, with the historic border towns of Jedburgh just two miles away, Kelso and Hawick nine miles and Melrose sixteen. The area is full of ancient castles and abbeys, hill walks and riverside walks. The local woollen mill shops provide an excellent choice of garments. All aspects of the letting to be aquired on application, with prices ranging from £200 to £350 weekly, depending on the time of year.
